Late June is a London based studio specialising in custom, experimental ceramic materials and glazes.
Each collection showcases a selection of clays or glazes from our library, all created in-house from scratch in our small glaze lab by our founder Jessica Steel.
Inspiration for the work is twofold. The heart the studio is the continuing research into the history and future of ceramic materials, and their influence on our world.
Travel also plays an important role in the creation of new work, with new pieces absorbing the character and the memory of the places visited.
About Jessica
Jessica moved to London to develop her practice at the Royal College of Art. During her graduation year, she was honoured to gain a distinction grade for a research paper, The Role of the Ceramicist in Space Travel. The text explored points in the history of ceramics and how they influenced the ceramic materials used within the space industry. The text also talks about the unexpectedly multidisciplinary team it took to advance ceramics materials for such a purpose. She also received The Charlotte Fraiser Prize for glaze chemistry research.
Since graduation Jessica has continued these main research streams. Developing them into her debut collections aimed at showcasing her clay and glaze recipes, exhibiting them with institutions such as Christieβs, and Saatchi Art Gallery. Jessica has also been lucky enough to be part of group exhibitions with world renowned artists and designers such as Faye Toogood, Max Lamb, Tom Dixon and Martino Gamper.
