A body of work including a series of prints, glazed porcelain sculptures and plaster models, created during my graduate year at the Royal College of Art.
I used my dissertation ‘The Role of the Ceramicist in Space Travel ‘, as a visual prompt for this project.
The text explored points in the history of ceramics and how they inspired the ceramic materials used within the space industry. It also talks about the unexpectedly multidisciplinary team it took to advance ceramics materials for such a purpose, including a pair of potters, and a farmer obsessed with the molecular structure of jelly.
I was proud to gain a distinction grade for this paper, the Sculpture project which followed also received The Charlotte Fraiser Prize for glaze chemistry research.
